an update, of sorts

sorry for my long absence, it is amazing how fast a few days can become a few months. it would seem that an update of sorts is in order.

in late september i was hired by the hospital in which i trained as an x-ray tech and, shortly after, i began interning there as well for my cat scan program. with the two combined i have been working more than fifty hours a week. while this certainly keeps the boredom at bay it leaves little time for anything else. come march i will have completed the program and will be more than ready to work a normal forty hour week in both x-ray and cat scan.

jonathan coulton, and others, live in theaters

on august 20, at eight pm pacific (twelve noon gmt) the internet music star jonathan coulton will join rifftrax live (think mystery science theater 3000) as they make mockery of "plan nine from outer space". veronica blemont will be hosting the panel consisting of joco and several cast members of mystery science theater 3000.

plan nine is a two-time winner of the golden turkey award for "worst film and worst director of all time," so, naturally, it is a much enjoyed comedy cult-classic (originally intended to be a horror movie...) not sure if i will be attending or not, but the closest theater for me would be in riverside at $13.00 a seat...

soterios johnson music video, wow style

gotta love jonathan coulton, enjoy

droidmaker, a free book about lucasfilms

droidworks is a book by michael rubin divulging the history and technology breakthroughs of george lucas and his various endeavors and companies. i have not read the book yet (just grabbed it today) but according to amazon, the book describes how george lucas created pixar, digital editing, and videogame avitars. that's right, you can thank star wars for world of warcraft and the guild. the best thing about this book is it has alot to do with star wars, just look at the title. the second best thing about this book is that you can get it from amazon or you can download it for free from the author's blog. seeing as how i am poor, i took the free option.

website that calculates x-ray doses and cancer risk

www.xrayrisk.com is a great place to go if you are worried about getting cancer from your trip to the hospital. it tells you the average radiation dose for a given procedure and then calculates the chance that you will get cancer from whatever procedure or procedures you underwent while at the hospital. the site focuses exclusively on cancer and it is unclear how much emphasis it places on the time of the exposure. the calculator does ask for the age of the patient at the time of the exposure which does influence the risk percentage and rightly so. but do the exams lose percentage over time? should they lose percentage over time?
