my computer is alive! and other news

before i begin my computer rant, i just want to mention that i have posted new photos on my flickr page at this link. we have the first years (newbies, padawans, etc) at clinic now. its kind of nice to not be the new guy anymore, and thy are nice people too :)

anyway, on to the computer rant:
my desktop has been repaired!! mostly. i got sick and tired of waiting for asus to finalize the warranty stuff that i went and bought a motherboard on my own. got a good deal on one from newegg too. the very next day after i order it asus calls me up and tells me that they are sending me a new board. i bought a different model than i started with for 2 reasons, 1: i did not trust that model anymore and 2: it was no longer in production. asus sent me the very same motherboard i had just ordered. so i am keeping both boards because i do not want to go through this hassle again. NEVER AGAIN! maybe next time (knock on wood) i will get a lawyer to write me a letter or something. the board is the asus p5n-d. its only downside is that it does not have wi-fi on the motherboard so i had to get a usb adapter which actually worked out pretty good. so now i have two of these boards and the ordeal which began back in at least SEPTEMBER!! has finally ended. but i am not completely out of the woods yet. when i tell the computer to go to sleep the screen goes blank but the fans are still running and i will occasionally hear a high pitch squeak. also boot up can sometimes be slow, it will often freeze on the bios post splash screen. usually i turn it off for a while or reboot immediately when it happens, but last night i let it go, seemingly frozen, while i played on the ps3 and after at least 10 minutes it finished its boot cycle. if anyone can explain that one please do. hopefully i can suppress the annoyance until break so i can get it looked at by staples between quarters instead of during them.
